When My Music Becomes Old People’s Music

The local radio stations must have decreed that today would be an 80’s soundtrack day.

(Which is to say it was a great music day!)

“Circle in the Sand” — Belinda Carlisle
“Red, Red Wine” — UB40 cover
“”Don’t Get Me Wrong” — The Pretenders

I was singing in my car all day long. Every song brought me right back to a specific time and/or place.

In the car tonight, Madonna’s “Lucky Star” came on the radio.

“Ah, 1983,” I said.
“Who IS this?” Lilly asked.
“Madonna. This was from her debut album.”
“Is Madonna still alive?” she asked.
“Yep.”
“How old is she?”
“She must be in her late fifties,” I answered.
“She is old.”

And so it begins.

Love it! We took the boys to see Retrofest: An evening at Madame Wong’s at Huntington Beach High School’s APA. We, Mark and I enjoyed going back in time, the boys said they had a good time even tho they weren’t sure about the music.

That’s one reason why I stick with Mozart. When the kids say, “that’s really old,” it doesn’t make me feel particularly old. He DID live a long time ago.

And it doesn’t end there. Sigh.

I love every song listed here.

Also love your dad’s comment, of course!

UB40’s “Red, Red Wine” doesn’t hold a candle to Neil Diamond’s original. 🙂

Listening to an 80s station on Pandora right now. I was also baking challah to 80s music last night. I love telling my kids about the music I grew up with. 🙂
